I would recommend adding some heat shrink to protect the thinner data wire coming out of the sound card device itself running up to the breakaway part, not because it is inherently weak but just to increase the service life of the product.
The other end is actually an Xbox breakaway cable so if you were to wear out the USB-A male connector, you could just buy a new Xbox breakaway section if you don't fancy cutting the old end off and soldering a new one on. Going forward I will be using a mixer to play Rocksmith alongside a Peavy amp so the Real Tone Cable at the jack end won't be moving much. For non-Americans Amazon only works with creditcards, which are as rare as white buffalo around here. I found it supposedly being sold together with a hard copy of the game but the waiting period is 13 weeks - And this 2nd option would mean that this Steam release is a waste of money anyway.
Thankfully mine hasn't failed but to be honest I haven't used Rocksmith a lot since I bought it. The real tone cable is not sold separately here. It would not be difficult to cut the moulded end off and replace it with a Neutrik connector or similar, however, it does mean stripping wires and soldering. This seems to be a common point of failure in these cables. The cable itself is a good thick cable but being a moulded type connector it's impossible to know how much strain relief there is inside. You can do this in the Control Panel easy enough.Īnother criticism is the non-serviceable mono jack. It did need to be setup to 'record' at 48khz though as it was set by default to 44.1khz, which may cause latency in game (this might be the fault of Windows rather than the cable). Seems to work just fine with Rocksmith 2014 on Windows 10.
